Pitch contest in front of a live audience.
Adventure Filmmakers Pitch Event
The Challenge
Pitch an original film idea to a live audience & judges. Win $15,000 in funding to direct & produce a short film in the outdoor adventure space.
Pitch Solution
To pitch my film idea, I knew that brand alignment with the two sponsor brands was key. I also knew that it was important to identify and position my film for what it was not. Following these two principles, I pitched my film around the following central ideas:
1) This film aligns around the sponsor brand’s primary principle: Let the Outside In. Guided by a quirky yet brilliant main character, my story was inherently one about slowing down and appreciating the natural world around us.
2) This film is not a stoke film. By confronting the perhaps surprising nature of this film as a contemplative, original piece, I was able to offset any doubts around the lack of high-adventure pacing and direct the panel to why this was a strength of the piece rather than a weakness.
Outcome
As a first-time filmmaker - and the least experienced of seven finalists — I won the Pitch Event and $15,000 in funding to direct & produce my short documentary. A year later, the film has been accepted to and screened at 5 film festivals and counting.
